After Oksana Markarova's resignation as Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, more and more government sources are hinting that she will likely not return to active diplomatic or state activities in Ukraine.
One of the MPs told NV on condition of anonymity that Markarova has no plans to return to her homeland. According to him, her future position is unlikely to be related to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or other Ukrainian state institutions.
According to other sources , the situation became more complicated after Donald Trump won the US presidential election in November 2024. Since then, sources say, the ambassador has been effectively isolated from the new administration in Washington and has had no access to key contacts. She has been “serving a number”, unable to fully carry out her diplomatic mission.
According to the publication, the decision to dismiss her was made shortly after a phone conversation between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump. In Kyiv, the change of ambassador is seen as an opportunity to renew communication channels with the new Republican administration and establish a more effective dialogue.
There have been no official statements about Markarova's future plans yet. But a number of signals from Bankova indicate that personnel reshuffles in the US-Ukraine strategic direction are just beginning.
