In the capital Podil found an unusual find - more than 10 tons of human remains in containers. The information about this quickly spread Ukrainian media and caused considerable resonance. However, as it turned out, it is not about a crime, but about the archeological heritage that scientists left behind.
According to the official explanation of the Kyiv Scientific and Methodological Center for the Protection of Monuments and the State Historical and Architectural Reserve "Ancient Kiev", the remains were found-human bones from excavations on Mount Shchekavitsa, where there was once an ancient cemetery. Mostly - full skeletons. There are more than a thousand remains.
The building near which the containers were found on the territory of the reserve and previously served as the basis for the Podilsky archeological expedition of the Institute of Archeology of the NAS of Ukraine. Representatives of the institute confirmed that all the bones have already been investigated and they do not make archaeological value, so they are subject to reburial.
The reserve is currently expending the Ministry of Culture's approval for the procedure. In Ancient Kiev it is noted that the scale of the finds is striking, and they hope for the rapid reaction of the respective organs to ensure a decent reburial.
This situation has attracted attention not only because of the number of remains, but also because of ethics in archeology - whether the remains of people should be stored in basements and containers for decades, and who is responsible for their further fate.
