In the Kyiv Sea, there is a record decrease in the water level, which has led to a significant increase in the area of existing islands. Ecologist Oleksandr Sokolenko believes that this phenomenon is connected with the discharge of water at the Kyiv HPP dam. In a comment for TSN, he noted that "the drop in the water level in the Kyiv Reservoir is connected with the discharge of water at the dam."
Sokolenko warns that a sharp drop in the water level can negatively affect the ecosystem of the reservoir, especially in the northern part, where many small swamps and ponds are located. "Such a sharp decline can lead to a mass death of fish," he added.
The ecologist emphasized that the decrease in the water level in a short period of time is particularly dangerous for reservoirs and their fauna. Sokolenko also recalled that at the end of August, the occupiers attacked the Kyiv HPP dam, when one of the Russian missiles hit the object. After that, experts recorded a record decrease in the water level.
"This may be one of the possible versions of the current shallowing, but the real reason is still unknown," the expert emphasized, calling attention to the problems that may arise due to such environmental changes.
