Yesterday, May 25, Kharkiv was again shelled by the Russian army. This time, the Epicenter construction hypermarket was hit by a direct shell.
According to preliminary data, at least 12 people were killed, said the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military-Civil Administration, Oleg Synegubov. Another 43 people were injured, two of them are in serious condition, and one person was taken to the burn intensive care unit. A 13-year-old child also underwent surgery.
Among the dead are employees of the hypermarket. According to representatives of “Epicenter”, about 200 visitors were in the building at the time of the shelling.
Currently, 16 people are missing. A headquarters has been deployed at the scene to eliminate the consequences of the shelling, and a mobile laboratory is also operating to identify DNA remains.
The shell hit a room where paints and varnishes were stored and caused an immediate fire, said Volodymyr Tymoshko, head of the Kharkiv region police.
A resident of Kharkiv, Anna Gin, testified about the horrific picture of the internal hell that broke out in the “Epicenter.” She watched the huge fire from the window of her house.
“It was real hell… Saturday, there were a lot of people there… Fifteen thousand square meters are burning… Thick black smoke is floating over the city… Photos cannot be published yet. But take my word for it, I can see everything from the window,” Anna Gin writes on her Facebook page.
Russian troops used UMPB D-30 aircraft shells to shell Epicenter, said Dmytro Chubenko, spokesman for the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
Another blow fell on Kharkiv's Central Park on Saturday evening.
25 people were injured. 7 high-rise buildings, a hospital, a store, a research institute building, and cars were damaged.
