Russian so-called military correspondents are massively reporting the loss of Starlink satellite communications in Russian army units at the front. According to them, the terminals stopped working on the evening of February 4. This happened after joint actions by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the company SpaceX.
Advisor to the Minister of Defense Serhiy Sternenko stated that if this information is confirmed, the Ukrainian army will be able to regain its advantage in the field of communications, while the Russian troops will have serious problems with control at the tactical level.
According to Sternenko, reports of a mass Starlink shutdown in Russian units appeared almost simultaneously in a number of propaganda resources. He emphasized that for the enemy this means a complication in coordinating actions, transmitting data, and controlling combat units.
Some Russian sources have tried to claim that satellite communications are also not working in the Ukrainian military. The Armed Forces of Ukraine deny this, although they admit that temporary disruptions are possible in certain areas.
Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Stanislav Bunyatov, known by the call sign "Osman," noted that the Russian troops themselves created the prerequisites for such restrictions when they began using Starlink terminals to control drones that were used to strike civilians. According to him, the occupiers were actually "sawing off the branch they were sitting on.".
Serhiy Sternenko also drew the attention of the Ukrainian military to the need to register all Starlink terminals in the DELTA system. Registered devices are added to the so-called "white list" of SpaceX, which allows you to avoid blocking. The Ministry of Defense calls on unit commanders to monitor this process to ensure stable and uninterrupted communication at the front.
The issue of Starlink use by Russian forces has escalated after Russia began using satellite-controlled drones to carry out terrorist attacks. After several such incidents, Ukraine appealed to SpaceX management with a demand to limit the possibility of enemy use of the system.
The company said that additional restrictions came into effect on February 1. In particular, Starlink automatically shuts down if the speed of the terminal carrier exceeds 75–90 kilometers per hour. This effectively makes it impossible to use it on drones and high-speed platforms. Russian propagandists have openly complained that such restrictions have seriously affected the capabilities of the Russian army.
In addition, since February 2, verification of Starlink satellite communication terminals has been underway in Ukraine as part of security measures. Only officially registered devices included in the "white lists" will operate in the country. Terminals that fail verification will be blocked.
