The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are forced to use decommissioned shells in artillery operations due to a shortage of weapons, The Telegraph reports. According to the publication, artillery soldiers are receiving shells that were scheduled for disposal before February 2022.
“Into the battle with scrap metal for the advantage,” is the title of an article in The Telegraph. The publication reports this with reference to a message from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry assures that artillery shells and small arms ammunition that were decommissioned in the past "undergo thorough quality checks before being sent to the front.".
“We understand that today on the battlefield every shot, missile, and ammunition is of vital importance,”
explains Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Dzhigir.
Against the backdrop of this message, Kyiv once again asks Western allies to "provide it with more weapons and ammunition to strengthen its defense line after long delays and shortages that allowed Russian troops to advance in the east.".
