The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhnyi was dismissed from his post, which affects the responsibility for military operations not only of the new leader, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, but also of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. According to The Wall Street Journal, the move was made to improve the military's efficiency.
Zelenskyi emphasized the need for urgent changes in the military sphere to implement reforms. However, the replacement of Zaluzhnyi, who enjoyed wide support, with Syrsky is considered a sign of the president's closer connection with strategic decisions on the battlefield, which will lead to an increase in his responsibility for events on the front.
Although Zelensky believes that Syrskyi's appointment will improve working relations, some military personnel and experts express disappointment, stressing that these changes may not change the essence of the situation on the front lines.
Thus, Zelensky's decision to reset the military leadership, in particular the change of the commander-in-chief, implies the improvement of the army's strategies and efficiency, but it causes different assessments regarding its possible consequences.
