UN report: In 2023, 85 cases of war-related sexual violence were recorded in Ukraine

During a UN Security Council debate on sexual violence in conflict, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Sexual Violence, Pramila Patten, announced that the number of cases of conflict-related sexual violence will increase by 50% in 2023 compared to the previous year.

A separate section of the report is devoted to the situation in Ukraine. Last year, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recorded 85 cases of sexual violence related to the conflict. Among the victims were both civilians and prisoners of war.

According to the report, among the victims were 52 men, 31 women, one girl and one boy. Most of the cases of sexual violence against adult men were recorded in Russian captivity, where it was used as a method of torture.
