On the Ukrainian-Slovak border, at the Uzhhorod Automobile Customs Post, law enforcement officers found undeclared currency on the person of a 48-year-old resident of Kharkiv Oblast. According to the Transcarpathian Customs, the man, along with his wife and son, were traveling abroad and chose the "green corridor", stating that the family was transporting the permitted amount - 10 thousand euros for each.
After a risk analysis, the vehicle was sent for an in-depth inspection. During the inspection, customs officers found a folder with documents among his personal belongings, which contained 50,000 euros. The man immediately admitted that the currency belonged to him and explained its origin by selling the car.
Since the funds were not declared in writing, and the man did not have any supporting bank documents with him, customs officers drew up a report on violation of customs rules under Part 1 of Article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The legislation provides for a fine of 20% of the amount exceeding the permitted limit of 10 thousand euros per person.
As a result, 20 thousand euros were seized from the man — at the NBU exchange rate, this is almost 1 million hryvnias. The court will make a further decision in the case.
