The Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office reported the exposure of a large-scale corruption scheme in the road industry. From December 2020 to December 2021, the former director of a contracting company and the chief engineer of the regional Road Service organized an overestimation of the cost of repair work on the R-21 Dolyna - Khust highway.
According to the investigation, the director of the contracting organization submitted to the customer forged acts and certificates with duplicate data on the use of crushed stone-sand mixture and asphalt concrete. This allowed to illegally increase the scope of work and inflate their cost. In total, the official submitted more than 25 documents with false information.
The leading engineer of the Highway Service, responsible for technical supervision, signed these papers, as a result of which the state lost almost UAH 37.8 million.
The former director is charged with embezzlement of property on a particularly large scale by prior conspiracy and official forgery. His accomplice is charged with official negligence, which led to serious consequences.
The issue of choosing a preventive measure for both suspects is currently being resolved.
