State registers of Ukraine will resume work from Monday

Ukrainian state registries, which were stopped after a large-scale hacker attack, will gradually resume their work from Monday, December 23. This was announced by the Minister of Justice of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna during a briefing on December 20.

According to her, the restoration of the registers will take about two weeks, and the first thing will be the restoration of the inheritance registers. The Ministry of Justice also assured that the data of Ukrainians were not affected, as all registers have backup copies of information that was relevant before the attack. Problems can arise only with data entered into the registers directly during the hacker invasion. In such cases, separate decisions will be made, Stefanishyna said.

The minister emphasized that there is no threat of data leakage. "All registries will be restored to the form in which they worked before the attack," she said. At the same time, in connection with a hacker attack, the operation of the Reserve+ system was temporarily stopped, although no threats to it were recorded, and it was necessary to strengthen protection.

Priority restoration of registers

In the next two weeks, the main attention will be paid to the restoration of the registers that ensure the accounting of the actions of notaries, as well as the registers of rights to immovable property and legal entities, which are important for concluding agreements. This will avoid chaos in notarial actions and ensure stability in the legal environment.

The Minister of Justice also reported that, together with the SBU and other relevant bodies, measures are already being taken to find out all the details of the attack. Possible vulnerabilities in the systems are established in order to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Stefanishyna noted that an audit of the company that manages the registers was scheduled a month before the attack. This audit will form the basis for further measures aimed at strengthening the system. The minister also promised that the hacker attack, which, according to the SBU, was being prepared for several months, will help to improve the work of the registers and strengthen their security.
