The State Bureau of Investigation reported the detention of a police officer from Rivne, who was responsible for a fatal traffic accident in the Rivne district.
According to the investigation, on August 8, at about 5:30 p.m. near the village of Braniv, a law enforcement officer, while driving his own car, drove onto the side of the road during a maneuver and hit two pedestrians. As a result, a 47-year-old man died on the spot, and his 34-year-old friend was injured, but his life is not in danger.
Investigators note that the driver smelled strongly of alcohol, but he flatly refused to undergo a sobriety test. Doctors recorded the refusal in the presence of witnesses.
As part of the criminal proceedings, a number of expert examinations have been ordered to establish all the details of the accident and confirm or deny the fact of alcohol intoxication.
The law enforcement officer was detained and reported on suspicion under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic rules, which led to the death of the victim). The court chose a preventive measure for him - detention without bail.
