The national selection for Eurovision 2026 will undergo significant changes this year. The music producer of the contest, Jamala, is determined to raise the bar of quality and is not going to be condescending to the participants. She emphasized that the goal is to represent Ukraine on the international stage at the highest level and maintain the reputation of a strong musical country.
In her Telegram channel, Jamala shared her first impressions of the demos that artists send. According to her, most of them do not meet either technical or content requirements. She was disappointed with the vocal training and lyrics, noting that some performers do not take into account the modern Ukrainian context and social mood at all.
"How can you just send a song, just 'me-me-me'? Well, you can sing something so that it's clear that it's a Eurovision song. Terrible quality, performance, intonation," Jamala reacted emotionally, emphasizing the need for a serious approach.
She believes that the competition is not just a platform for self-promotion, but a responsibility to the country and the audience, which today needs deep meanings, strength, and authenticity. Despite the criticism, Jamala still selected several worthy works, but she wants to see much more powerful applications.
The 2026 National Selection promises to be tougher and more demanding, as the organizers strive to maintain the high standard of Ukrainian performance at Eurovision and prevent mediocrity.
