A photo of the fish was posted on Facebook by user Slavik Stankovych. According to him, the catch was made on Lake Laguna, and the fish weighed 9.5 kg.
“ Lake Laguna! Come make a wish! Golden carp ,” the fisherman captioned the photo. The publication immediately garnered dozens of likes and comments of admiration.
Koi carp is not a typical inhabitant of Ukrainian water bodies, as it is a decorative breeding form of common carp, bred in Japan in the 19th century. However, koi thrive in artificial lakes and ponds, and are considered not only an ornament, but also a symbol of strength, endurance, and nobility.
There is a legend in Japanese culture: a koi that overcomes a waterfall turns into a dragon. This fish is also impressive in its longevity – some individuals live for over 70 years. Famous koi reach a length of up to 90 cm, and the largest ones weigh more than 10 kg.
So, the fisherman from Transcarpathia didn't just catch a big fish — he got a real living talisman.
