A land appraiser involved in undervaluing a plot of land in Mukachevo has been extradited from Germany to Ukraine. The official became the fifth defendant in a criminal case opened against the city's mayor, Andriy Baloga, and the head of the Mukachevo district council, Mykhailo Lan.
As reported by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine on September 15, the appraiser falsified the report on the expert monetary valuation of a land plot with an area of over 3 hectares, reducing its value. In a preliminary collusion with other participants in the transaction, such actions caused losses to the territorial community in the amount of UAH 81.7 million.
The arrest took place with the assistance of German law enforcement agencies in the winter of 2024. The extradited person was handed over to Ukrainian law enforcement officers at the Krakivets-Korchova international checkpoint in the Lviv region. Within 48 hours, he will be brought to court to consider a request for a preventive measure.
Recall that in June 2024, Andriy Baloga and Mykhailo Lan were detained on suspicion of selling the land plot of the Avangard stadium at an undervalued price to the Universal-M company. Four more people were involved in the scheme, who were also notified of the suspicion. The mayor of Mukachevo and the head of the district council face up to six years in prison.
