In the Kharkiv region, police are searching for victims of the actions of a morgue employee suspected of cynically stealing the personal belongings of fallen Ukrainian soldiers. The woman, who worked at the Chuhuiv district morgue, was exposed in April 2025. According to the investigation, she used her official position and appropriated gold jewelry and other valuables from the bodies of fallen defenders.
Law enforcement officers established that instead of properly honoring the memory of the deceased, the morgue employee committed a crime, enriching herself on someone else's grief. She was detained and reported on suspicion under Part 1 of Article 185 (theft) and Part 3 of Article 297 (desecration of the body of a deceased person) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Investigators are currently identifying all possible victims, as the number of cases may be higher than currently known. Police are urging families of fallen servicemen who discover personal belongings or jewelry missing after the bodies have been handed over to contact law enforcement.
For contact information, the following phone numbers are provided:
– Criminal Police Department: 099 036 54 52
– Kupyansky District Police Department on duty: 050 401 52 82
Law enforcement officers emphasize that each appeal will be processed in order to restore justice and bring those responsible to justice for betraying humanity and the memory of fallen heroes.
