In Kyiv, a teenager left her 7-month-old son alone for several days

According to the prosecutor's office, the minor resident of the capital left for Kharkiv, leaving the baby alone in the apartment for five days. The child was removed in critical condition in January of this year and taken to the intensive care unit of Kyiv City Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1.

Doctors fought for the boy's life for more than five months. Doctors note that the cause of his serious condition was not only being without food and water for many days, but also systematic improper care: the baby was fed irregularly, his diapers were rarely changed, and he was almost constantly in bed, which caused bedsores.

The child's condition has now been stabilized, but treatment is continuing. The issue of depriving the mother of parental rights will be decided later.

The commission's examination confirmed that the 17-year-old's actions led to serious consequences for the baby's health. She is charged with leaving a child in danger and malicious failure to fulfill parental duties (Part 3 of Article 135, Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

If convicted, the mother faces up to 8 years in prison.
