The fountain in Poltava's Shevchenko Park had to be completely shut down and cleaned after an overnight prank by unknown individuals. On the night of August 1, someone poured a chemical substance into the fountain's bowl, causing a large amount of foam.
Utility workers quickly drained the water and turned off the fountain, and later began cleaning work.
As reported by the press service of the Poltava City Council, about 20 thousand hryvnias were spent on restoring the fountain.
What did the utility workers do?
Within a few days, the specialists completed the full list of works:
-
drained the contaminated water;
-
cleaned the system and washed the bowl of foam residues;
-
performed equipment maintenance;
-
filled the fountain with clean water and started it up again.
The fountain has been operating again since August 3.
The city council urges people not to throw foreign substances into fountains. Even seemingly harmless soap or foaming agents can cause pumps and filters to break, which is costly to the city and can pose a danger to people.
