The prosecutor's office reported the suspicion of the acting director of one of the specialized hospitals of Shostka district of Sumy region. According to the investigation, the doctor demanded a bribe from a patient who sought to undergo a course of treatment from drug addiction, which could be released from criminal liability.
A man whose law enforcement officers had previously seized drugs have taken a legal opportunity to undergo treatment in a medical institution. However, instead of help, he came across corruption requirements. The medical officer demanded $ 1,000 for three days in the hospital. He demanded this money for documentation, in particular - medical card statements, which confirmed the course of treatment.
Law enforcement officers detained the doctor while receiving a bribe. The detention was carried out in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Investigative actions are currently underway. The issue of election of a suspected preventive measure is resolved. He is charged with the extortion and receipt of undue benefit (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), which provides up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
