A conflict is ongoing in Poltava over the development of the Maldives beach in Vakulentsy. Entrepreneur Oleksandr Nestulya, who also manages the Hawaii beach, has taken on clearing the area — leveling the ground, clearing bushes, and cutting down trees.
According to the city council, some of the work is being carried out without any permits. The Poltava Housing and Communal Services Department did not grant permission to remove green spaces in this area, and the established procedure requires the mandatory submission of an application, examination by a commission, and issuance of a corresponding conclusion.
The contract for the lease of the Maldives beach was concluded by entrepreneur Tetyana Nestulya on October 2, 2025. The lease amount is 330 thousand hryvnias per year, the term is five years. The purpose of the work is to prepare the beach for the next swimming season, but the illegal removal of trees has caused criticism from the city council and the public.
City authorities emphasized the need to follow procedures for removing green spaces and warned of possible consequences for violators.
