Less phone - more happiness? As a restriction of screen time improves life

Can a short time in a smartphone really become happier? Scientists at the University of Kressa have conducted a study that proves: to reduce the use of a smartphone by two hours a day, it is possible, if you significantly increase the mood, reduce the level of stress and further improve the quality of sleep.

The experiment participated more than 100 students, whose average age was 23 years. They were divided into two groups: one group spent no more than two hours a day, and the other continued to use gadgets as usual - on average 4.5 hours a day. Scientists measured stress, depression symptoms, sleep quality and overall well -being with questionnaires.

Three weeks later, those who used the phone have improved well -being: the symptoms of depression have decreased

27%, stress decreased by 16%, and sleep became better by 18%. The participants also noted that their mood improved by 14%.

However, returning to old behaviors quickly led to a deterioration of mental health.

The daily time of using a smartphone has increased sharply in recent years and today on average the world is 3 hours 46 minutes. According to the WHO study in 2022, in Austria, 38% of teenagers sit on the phone for at least 5 hours a day.
