Negotiations between Ukraine and Hungary on the rights of national minorities that were to take place on May 12 were postponed to the Hungarian side. This was reported by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on its official Facebook page.
It was about the next meeting of expert groups, which was created after previous arrangements in Budapest. These groups had to discuss 11 recommendations made by Hungary to improve the situation of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine.
Consultations were to take place in Uzhgorod, where the delegation from Kiev had already arrived. However, the Hungarian side announced the transfer of the event after the arrival of Ukrainian representatives.
It is known that since last year, Hungary has insisted on the implementation of 11 points concerning the restoration and protection of the Hungarian community, which resides mainly in Transcarpathia. The Hungarian government has stated that Ukraine's support to the European Union would depend on these requirements.
Today, a new consultation date has not been announced. The Ukrainian side has not yet reported the reasons for the transfer, and in Budapest the situation is also not publicly commented.
