Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said his country would not provide financial or military assistance to Ukraine. According to him, Bratislava does not support the strategy of "peace through force", which he considers only a reason to continue the war. He voiced this position after the meeting of the Presidents of Ukraine and the US in the White House, when it became known that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to insist on a military resolution of a conflict with Russia.
Fitzo also expressed doubts about Ukraine's ability to negotiate from the point of view of force, noting that the country does not have sufficient military power for this. However, the Prime Minister of Slovakia added that Bratislava is ready to submit an initiative to immediately cease fire at the EU summit, which will take place on March 6. However, he noted that this proposal will not be supported by either the President of Zelensky or the majority of the European Union.
In a separate context, Fitzo also raised the issue of restoring Russian gas transit through Ukraine to Slovakia and Western Europe, accusing Ukraine of "collected European gas". He considers the situation absurd when gas from Eastern Europe is not supplied to the West and Ukraine continues to receive European gas.
Fitzo stressed that if the EU summit does not take into account alternative views on war, the European Council may not reach consensus on Ukraine's conclusions. He also stressed the need to strengthen Europe's defense capability.
