British Opposition Leader Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are joining forces to persuade US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to use long-range Storm Shadow missiles to strike Russian territory. This initiative is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's position before the possible inauguration of the new US president in 2025.
In this way, they want to disrupt Trump's efforts to reduce US support for Ukraine, The Telegraph newspaper writes. According to her, the British and French leaders will discuss this issue today in Paris.
"There are hopes in London that Biden will finally give his approval," the newspaper writes.
"We are very interested in making the most of the time between now and January 20 (i.e. Trump's inauguration - Ed.), and not just putting everything off until the next administration," added a British government source.
At the same time, the newspaper writes that Starmer's plan "may be perceived by Trump as an attempt to undermine US foreign policy", which threatens to worsen relations between the prime minister and the new president.
