Serhiy Petrov, a therapist, commented on the safety risks associated with leaving a smartphone charging next to a person while they sleep. According to him, most fears about the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation have no convincing scientific basis: radio waves from modern smartphones have low power and, as a rule, do not harm the body.
The doctor emphasized that technical aspects are more important for safety: using only certified chargers and avoiding overheating the battery. Overheating can cause battery malfunctions, and in rare cases, even battery failure; cases of explosion or fire are mainly associated with manufacturing defects or mechanical damage, and not with the fact of leaving the phone on charge while sleeping.
Petrov addressed a separate warning to humid conditions: charging in rooms with high humidity, in particular in the bathroom, is strictly not recommended due to the risk of short circuit if moisture gets into the electronics - this creates a real danger to life and health.
The doctor also explained that moderate heating of the phone during charging is normal and usually does not pose a threat. At the same time, he advised to monitor the condition of the device: if the phone heats up a lot, there is damage to the case or battery, or if uncertified cables and adapters are used, you should stop using it and contact a service center.
Petrov concluded: sleeping next to a charging smartphone, provided that basic safety rules are followed — using certified accessories, avoiding moisture, and controlling overheating — does not pose a significant threat. Nevertheless, each user decides for himself the degree of his comfort and caution — those who find it more convenient can leave the phone on the bedside table, while others prefer to keep a distance or turn off the device at night.
