The Verkhovna Rada announced the creation of a new subcommittee on decolonization, the press service of the parliament reported.
The subcommittee was headed by a deputy from the "Justice" association (former member of the "Voice" faction) Roman Lozynskyi, who is also the first deputy chairman of the Committee on the Organization of State Power.
According to the announcement, the competence of the subcommittee includes the implementation of legislative norms aimed at:
- elimination of symbols of communist and national socialist totalitarian regimes;
- removal of symbols of Russian imperial policy in Ukraine;
- removal from the public space of the names of settlements that do not meet the standards of the state language.
In addition, the subcommittee will deal with the naming and renaming of settlements and districts.
The decision to create a subcommittee was made after analyzing the proposals of local authorities, military administrations, as well as the recommendations of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and the National Commission for State Language Standards regarding the renaming of certain settlements in Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions.
