Ukraine has made significant changes to one of the points of the draft of the so-called "peace plan", which has been actively covered by Western media in recent days. The Wall Street Journal reports this, citing a senior American official.
According to the publication, the initial version of the document referred to the verification of all international aid received by Ukraine. Such a provision was probably aimed at identifying possible corruption risks. However, in the new version of the draft, this item disappeared: instead, a provision appeared on "full amnesty" for all parties for actions committed during the war.
American officials, according to the WSJ, note that the terms of the proposed agreement still need to be finalized with Kyiv. White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said that Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, positively assessed "most of the plan" during recent negotiations.
The publication also notes that European leaders are working on their own counter-proposal to end the war. According to diplomats, the EU is seeking to form an alternative document that, in their opinion, will be more beneficial for Kyiv. They are trying to convey the European position to Ukraine, but official Kyiv has not yet committed to supporting the new initiative.
The article emphasizes that Europe hopes to complete work on its proposal “in the coming days.”
