The troops of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which are designated for combat operations, are forced to dig trenches in anticipation of a possible large-scale offensive by the occupiers this spring.
Currently, the Russian occupiers are attacking Ukrainian positions at various points along the front line, trying to win the first "big" victory in Avdiivka. In response, Ukraine is trying to build defense structures similar to those built by Russia a year ago. The troops are carrying out earthworks, creating anti-tank ditches and trenches, especially in the areas close to Avdiivka.
"On all the main fronts, we need to maintain our position, accelerate the pace of construction. The priority is obvious," Ukrainian military circles note. However, Western officials and the Ukrainian military admit that the "dig and destroy" campaign did not bring significant results. The situation is becoming quite critical for Ukrainian forces, and soldiers who are in the combat zone near Avdiyivka say that they have to dig and build fortifications themselves.
Ukraine is now turning to private companies and international donors for support in the construction of defense structures. The mobilization of fresh forces for combat is also important for the army.
"In most countries, military service is more common for men and women starting at age 18," the report emphasizes. Russia is increasing its attacks, so the construction of effective defense structures is becoming critically important for Ukraine. Ukrainian troops hope that the defense line in the city of Pokrovsk will be sufficiently strengthened to withstand the onslaught of Russian troops.
