During the final meeting of the Working Group of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement Activities, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Maryana Bezugla presented a revised draft law on the creation of a military justice system in Ukraine.
The draft law defines the status of the military police, its legal basis, general structure and personnel, the procedure for the use of measures of physical influence and firearms, as well as the legal and social protection of its employees.
Chairman of the Committee Serhiy Ionushas and other members of the working group also spoke during the presentation of the draft law. The initiators of the bill believe that it will contribute to the maintenance of law and order and military discipline in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Armed Forces and the State Special Transport Service.
It is expected that the draft law will be registered and considered by the Committee in the near future.
Earlier, on May 22, in the first reading, the Verkhovna Rada approved draft law No. 10311 on improving the legal basis for the use of coercive measures by National Guard servicemen. It envisages giving National Guard servicemen the right to use the means to forcibly stop a car whose driver has failed to comply with their legal requirements or is trying to avoid checkpoint control.
