Xiaomi has announced an immediate recall of its PB2030MI (33W, 20,000mAh) portable battery packs due to possible overheating and explosion. The recall program affects over 146,000 units sold in China.
The recall includes power banks manufactured in August–September 2024 with batteries marked 126280. Company representatives warn that the unstable operation of these elements can cause overheating, fire, or even explosion when exposed to high or low temperatures.
Owners in China are promised a full refund. Consumers abroad are advised to temporarily refrain from charging overnight and limit the use of power banks until the investigation is complete.
This is the second recall of Xiaomi power banks in 2024: the company also recalled other models in June due to similar safety concerns. It is currently unknown whether these batteries have made it to the international market, so owners outside of China should exercise increased caution.
