The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, expressed his support to the absolute world champion in super heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk before his upcoming fight with the British boxer Tyson Fury. The video of the president's conversation with the boxer was published on social networks.
During the conversation, Zelensky noted that Usyk looks "strong" and shared his wishes for victory. He emphasized the importance of every athlete's achievement for the Ukrainian people:
"Each of your victories cheers up and energizes Ukrainians. Everyone is a big fan of your talent, bravery and success."
The president also joked about Great Britain's support in Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression:
"When you defeat Fury, don't [beat him] hard, so they don't ban us from Storm Shadow, missiles..."
Usyk humorously answered that he accepts the advice with respect, but emphasized that a boxing match is only a sport. The boxer said that he is in a good mood, although the last week before the fight is usually filled with anticipation and tension.
"Waiting, training - every day time doesn't take as long as usual," Usyk shared.
The fight between the Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk and the British Tyson Fury will take place on December 21 in Saudi Arabia. The WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles will be at stake.
Usyk, who has already become famous for his technique and stability, will get a chance to once again prove his superiority on the international stage.
President Zelensky emphasized that Usyk's victory will be not only his personal achievement, but also a source of inspiration for the entire country.
"Keep striking for Ukraine!" – this symbolic appeal of Zelenskyi reflects the sentiments of millions of Ukrainians who support their hero.
