The State Bureau of Investigation has reported suspicions to the former head of the Department of State Procurement and Supply of Material Resources of the Ministry of Defense, Bohdan Khmelnytsky. According to the investigation, his actions during the implementation of contracts for the supply of water for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine led to an overpayment of more than 322 million hryvnias.
Investigators found that during martial law, an official made excessive payments while concluding and executing two contracts with commercial entities. Due to his negligent actions, the state suffered significant losses.
Bohdan Khmelnytskyi was charged under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — negligent attitude to military service, which led to serious consequences. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to eight years.
The pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing. Law enforcement officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the agreements and the possible involvement of other officials in the scheme.
It is worth noting that Bohdan Khmelnytskyi has previously come under the attention of law enforcement. The court found him guilty of submitting false information to the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.
