Detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine announced the discovery of a criminal scheme related to the import of helmets and bulletproof vests under the guise of humanitarian aid for the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In order to obtain benefits for importing military goods, the company director provided customs authorities with forged letters with false information about the final recipient.
According to the documents, the ammunition was intended for the military unit of the National Guard of Ukraine. However, in fact, the imported protective helmets and ballistic plates for body armor were not transferred to the military unit.
They were sold illegally through a network of specialized stores located in several regions of Ukraine and on the Internet.
According to the investigation, in May 2022, the suspect imported 1,000 protective helmets and 3,000 ballistic plates for bulletproof vests into the customs territory of Ukraine under the guise of humanitarian aid.
During searches of the company's office, warehouse, and stores, BEB detectives seized helmets, ballistic plates, and body armor of various protection classes with a total value of over 40 million hryvnias.
Financial and business documents confirming the company's illegal activities were also seized.
In addition, the Bureau's employees established that the company's officials evaded taxes of over UAH 15 million during the sale of ammunition. The illegally imported goods seized during the search were seized.
Currently, the director of the company has been notified of the suspicion and a preventive measure in the form of bail has been chosen.
