In the Brovarsky district of Kyiv region recorded an unusual natural phenomenon - tornado. Video of atmospheric vortex, which quickly gained popularity on social networks, was published by correspondents of telegram channel "Real Kiev".
Experts explain that the observed phenomenon is more reminiscent of a tornado - a kind of tornado, which by nature formation is almost indistinguishable from its more powerful analogue. According to the ecologist Alexander Sokolenko in a comment for TSN.ua, tornadoes arise because of the collision of contrasting air masses - warm and cold. The sharper the change in temperature, the higher the risk of vortices.
“Tornado most often occurs in regions with constant air mass contrasts, such as in the south of the United States. In Ukraine, these phenomena are rare and usually less powerful, ”the expert said.
According to Sokolenko, in Ukraine, tornadoes are usually recorded in the south - in the Odessa region and near the Black Sea. However, the tornado in the Kiev region is explained by an abnormal temperature difference: after extremely warm weather a week ago, cold Arctic air was sharply invaded.
The expert stressed that the appearance of tornado in April is atypical for Ukraine and usually similar phenomena occur in the summer, during peak solar activity. Therefore, such early fixation of vortex can indicate already tangible climatic changes.
Although the fixed tornado looked spectacular, according to the ecologist, his strength was small: the vortex could have knocked down a person from his feet or snatch something out of his hands, but not cause large -scale destruction.
Oleksandr Sokolenko also warns that in the future the number of such natural phenomena in Ukraine can increase. Although they are less devastating than in the United States, with subsequent climatic changes, Ukraine is at risk of facing dangerous atmospheric vortices.
