The High Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Ihor Shcherbina, former godfather of Roman Truba, former director of the State Bureau of Investigation, and former head of the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office, to 6 years in prison with confiscation of property. The decision was made by the panel of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court on June 26.
The court found Shcherbina guilty of committing criminal offenses under Parts 4 and 27 of Article 190, Part 2 of Article 15, Part 4 of Article 369, and Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sentence provides for imprisonment for 6 years with confiscation of property, except for a share in the ownership of one of the apartments, as well as deprivation of the class rank of Senior Counselor of Justice, assigned by the order of the Prosecutor General of August 11, 2006.
Shcherbina was taken into custody immediately after the verdict was announced, and now the decision can be appealed to the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court within 30 days. The verdict was delivered by a panel consisting of: presiding judge Ihor Strohy, judges Lesya Fedorak and Viktor Maslov. The decision has not entered into legal force and can be appealed to the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court within 30 days.
According to the prosecution, Shcherbin was caught demanding $150,000 in illicit gain through businessman Valentyn Shevchenko, who acted as an intermediary in paying a bribe in collusion with a capital city developer to close criminal proceedings being conducted against the developer company by the territorial department of the State Bureau of Investigation.
