In Dnipro, two university officials were charged with bribery. They demanded $2,500 from an applicant for the opportunity to enroll in a master's degree without hindrance.
According to the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast police, one of the officials, together with an accomplice, promised to "help" with the exam results and guarantee admission. In return, the applicant was supposed to give them $2,500.
Law enforcement officers documented the moment the money was received: first $500, and a few minutes later the remaining $2,000. The suspects planned to divide the funds received among themselves.
Investigators charged one of the suspects with aiding and abetting, and the other with obtaining unlawful benefit through prior collusion by a group of persons, combined with extortion (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
These articles threaten officials with 5 to 10 years in prison, as well as confiscation of property and a ban on holding certain positions in the future.
