The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine yesterday passed a bill in its first reading that expands the powers of the National Guard. Among the innovations is the permission to use service dogs for various operational tasks, including the detention of administrative violators and the dispersal of rallies.
The bill allows the use of service dogs for:
- Patrolling Service dogs will be involved in street patrolling, which will increase the safety of citizens and the efficiency of the National Guard.
- Surface inspection or survey Using dogs to inspect persons, items, goods (cargo) and vehicles will allow for faster and more accurate detection of potentially dangerous objects.
- Pursuit and Apprehension Service dogs will assist in the pursuit and apprehension of persons who have committed administrative offenses or are suspected of committing criminal offenses.
- Guarding military facilities Dogs will be used to guard strategically important military facilities, which will increase their security.
- Repelling an attack Service dogs will be deployed to repel attacks on people or military personnel, which will increase the safety of citizens and the military.
- Stopping mass riots One of the most controversial innovations is the possibility of using dogs to stop mass riots, which can have a significant impact on maintaining public order during protests and rallies.
