The popular "Olivier" salad, without which it is difficult to imagine the New Year's table of Ukrainians, has again been added to the price this year. According to the association "Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business" (UKAB), a portion of salad now costs 300 hryvnias, which is 19% more than in 2023.
Why did the prices increase?
Experts explain this rise in prices mostly due to the increase in the cost of key ingredients:
- Boiled sausage : increased in price by 29%, from UAH 118 to UAH 152 for 350 grams.
- Eggs : now cost UAH 32 for four pieces, which is 33% more than last year.
- Mayonnaise : UAH 25 for 200 grams (+25%).
- Pickled cucumbers : UAH 35 for 200 grams (+17%).
- Potatoes : the price has doubled - from UAH 5.5 to UAH 11 for 300 grams.
- Carrots : became 2.5 times more expensive - from UAH 2 to UAH 5 for 150 grams.
At the same time, the price of canned green peas decreased by 23% and is UAH 40 per can.
New Year's menu: price increases on all fronts
According to the calculations of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economy", a traditional New Year's menu for a family of four will cost UAH 3,594.05 this year. This is 24.8% more expensive than in 2023.
If we talk about traditional Christmas dishes, then their menu, which includes kutyu, uzvar, lean borscht, dumplings, stewed cabbage and fried fish, will cost UAH 1,365. This is as much as 41% more than last year.
The increase in the price of holiday products is hitting the wallets of Ukrainians. However, thrifty housewives can adapt recipes or replace some of the ingredients with more affordable options. For example, sausage - chicken fillet, and expensive green peas - frozen.
