Oleksandr Kachura, a member of parliament from the Servant of the People faction, admitted that in 2012 he was a supporter of Viktor Medvedchuk and collaborated with the Ukrainian Choice movement. He stated this in an interview with Radio Liberty, commenting on his participation in the organization's youth actions.
According to Kachura, in 2012, he, together with representatives of the youth organization he created, held a joint action with the youth wing of "Ukrainian Choice" dedicated to the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS. During the event, condoms were distributed to students of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
The MP explained that at that time he did not see anything negative in such activities. According to him, this happened before the occupation of Crimea and the start of the war in Donbas, and he himself was young and did not realize the possible political consequences.
At the same time, after this statement, documentary confirmation of his participation in the structure of "Ukrainian Choice" appeared. According to the analytical resource YouControl and the official response of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the name of Oleksandr Kachura is listed in state registers as the head of a separate unit No. 800896 of the All-Ukrainian public organization "All-Ukrainian Public Movement "Ukrainian Choice"" in the Solomiansky district of Kyiv.
Former People's Deputy Yuriy Levchenko stated that Kachura headed the Solomyansk district organization of "Ukrainian Choice" until 2020. At the same time, according to him, Kachura already had the status of a current People's Deputy from the "Servant of the People" faction and was one of the public speakers of the ruling party.
Levchenko recalled that the Security Service of Ukraine had previously stated that Ukrainian Choice was involved in facilitating the Russian occupation and annexation of Crimea. The Prosecutor General's Office also reported suspicions against three leaders of this organization's initiative groups for participating in organizing and holding an illegal "referendum" in occupied Crimea.
Against this background, Levchenko draws attention to the lack of accountability for Ukrainian Choice functionaries who are in Ukrainian-controlled territory. According to him, some of them were later elected as deputies of local councils from the OPZH, despite numerous public testimonies of their anti-Ukrainian activities.
The former People's Deputy also emphasized that the main responsibility for the activities of "Ukrainian Choice" should lie with its founder and leader, Viktor Medvedchuk, however, despite the loud statements of law enforcement officers, the logical conclusion of the investigation in the form of real verdicts has not yet occurred.
In conclusion, Levchenko asked a public question: will the head of one of the branches of the organization, which Ukrainian special services associate with facilitating Russian aggression, bear at least some responsibility?.
