Russian troops continue to increase pressure on the eastern front. According to updated data from the OSINT project DeepState, the occupiers have achieved new tactical successes in the Donetsk region and are rapidly approaching the administrative border with Dnipropetrovsk region. From one of the enemy bridgeheads — the village of Kotlyarivka — to the border of the region there are only about five kilometers left.
This information was released by DeepState analysts on the night of April 12.
Three directions of threat
According to analysts, the Russian army has advanced in three areas:
-
Kalinov,
-
Novooleksandrivka,
-
Kotlyarivka.

These settlements are located within the Donetsk region, but the geography of hostilities is rapidly shifting westward. The situation near Kotlyarivka, where the administrative border with Dnipropetrovsk region is only 5 km away, is particularly alarming.
Gradual escalation
The day before, on April 11, DeepState recorded the occupation of the village of Oleksandropil in the Pokrovsky district of Donetsk region. There were also reports of Russian advances in the Novobakhmutivka and Uspenivka areas.
This indicates a gradual but persistent attempt by the enemy to break deeper into the defensive lines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What does "5 km to the border" mean?
Reducing the distance to the administrative borders of the Dnipropetrovsk region is not just a symbolic border. It creates a direct threat to the frontline communities of the region, and may also have a psychological effect on the civilian population and defense forces.
Given the situation, strengthening the defense line, transferring reserves, and responding promptly to threats that are rapidly changing geography remain critically important.
