The UN and partners call on donors to allocate $4.2 billion for humanitarian aid to Ukraine
The United Nations and its allies on January 15 called on donors to give a total of $4.2 billion in humanitarian support to war-affected communities in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in 2024. Of this amount, $3.1 billion is intended to help about 8.5 million people in Ukraine, and $1.1 billion is for refugees and host communities outside the country.
UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, presenting the annual humanitarian plan to support Ukraine in Geneva, expressed serious concern for children living in the conflict zone and called for more humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
According to the UN, more than 14.6 million people in Ukraine, which is about 40% of the population, will need humanitarian assistance in 2024 due to the Russian invasion.
Ukrainian regions are regularly attacked by the Russian military, resulting in numerous casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Russia allegedly denies its involvement in civilian shelling.
