The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit with the High Anti-Corruption Court to recover unfounded assets of a Kyiv police officer in the amount of over 7 million UAH.
We are talking about the head of the fifth department of the strategic investigations department in the capital of the Strategic Investigations Department of the National Police. According to the NACP, during the monitoring of the law enforcement officer's lifestyle, property was discovered that does not correspond to his official income.
In 2021–2023, the police officer and his relatives issued the following:
-
2022 Volkswagen Touareg worth over UAH 2.9 million;
-
Volkswagen Passat 2021 worth UAH 1.35 million;
-
BMW 330i 2022 worth UAH 1.75 million.
In addition, in 2021, he spent over UAH 500,000 to create a monetary asset of $27,000, despite the lack of official income that would allow such accumulation.
In 2023, more than 700 thousand UAH were received into the bank accounts of the policeman himself and his wife, the origin of which remained unknown.
The official insisted that he received the funds in the form of loans and gifts from relatives. At the same time, the NACP, after analyzing his family's income and expenses, concluded that there were no legal sources for acquiring such property.
The SAPO's lawsuit will be considered by the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine. If the court confirms the unfoundedness of the assets, all of the specified property will be confiscated in favor of the state in accordance with Article 290 of the Code of Civil Procedure.
Thus, the case of the Kyiv police officer may become another illustrative example of anti-corruption practices in Ukraine, where even security forces must be held accountable for the discrepancy between their income and expenses.
