The Senate of the United States of America has finally approved the draft law, which provides for assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan in the amount of 95 billion dollars, of which 60 billion is assigned to Kyiv. The total number of votes "for" was 70, against - 29.
The bill now awaits approval in the House of Representatives of the US Congress, where the majority is held by Republicans, many of whom are oriented towards the position of former President Donald Trump, who criticized the bill.
The process of approving the bill in the Senate continued until late at night on February 12, when it was decided to remove the last procedural hurdle and limit the debate on the bill to 30 hours. Some GOP critics of the document planned to speak against it at a nighttime meeting on February 13.
Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, expressed doubts about the passage of the bill in the chamber, emphasizing its "silence regarding the most acute problem facing the country" - the security of the US border.
In this regard, it is necessary that both chambers of Congress - the Senate and the House of Representatives - approve the bill before US President Joe Biden can sign it.
Joe Biden has been calling on Congress for several months to approve new aid to Ukraine. The US president emphasizes the importance of continuing military aid to Ukraine, which is confirmed by his meetings with the leadership of Germany and the statements of the congressional delegation that was in Ukraine on February 9.
Therefore, the adoption of the bill in the House of Representatives will be an important step in providing assistance to Ukraine and other countries.
