Ukrainians began the year 2025 with distinct changes in their attitudes, which were the result of a sociological survey conducted by the NGO "Advanced Legal Initiatives". The data indicate a deep dissatisfaction with the general direction of the country's development, but also show that Ukrainians are ready for compromises for the sake of peace.
Economic context: how do Ukrainians live?
The financial situation of citizens is a key problem:
- 9.3% note that they do not have enough money even for food.
- 42% can afford only food, but not household expenses.
- Only 2.9% live without financial restrictions.
Despite the economic challenges, 51% of Ukrainians plan to celebrate Christmas on December 25, 19% remain faithful to January 7, and 18% decided to celebrate both dates. This shows a desire for cultural balance even in difficult times.
War and Peace: what do Ukrainians choose?
The issue of war causes heated discussions:
- 73.4% support peace talks, even if it requires compromises.
- 26.6% insist on the continuation of the war until the return of the 1991 borders.
Only 8.8% believe in the complete victory of Ukraine with the return of territories and accession to NATO and the EU, while 33.4% are ready for a peaceful settlement under the guarantees of Western partners.
Presidential ratings: new distribution of forces
Valery Zaluzhnyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, topped the presidential rating with 24.29% support. Its closest competitors are:
- Volodymyr Zelenskyi — 16.07%.
- Yulia Tymoshenko — 12.62%.
It is interesting that the ratings of Zelensky and Tymoshenko increased by 5.44% and 5.55%, respectively, while sympathy for Zaluzhny fell by 4%.
Parliamentary sympathies
The conditional "Zaluzhny party" also leads the parliamentary ratings with 15.92%, followed by "Zelenskyi's party" (13.98%) and Tymoshenko's "Batkivshchyna" (11.96%).
Survey methodology
The survey was conducted on December 19-24, 2024 among 5,094 respondents in various regions of Ukraine and abroad. The methods of face-to-face interview and telephone survey through the mobile application "IQR" were used.
The study demonstrates high social tension and dissatisfaction among citizens, but at the same time, the desire to achieve peace even through compromises. Zaluzhny remains the leader of political sympathies, although his positions are no longer as steadfast as before.
