Ukrainian football club "Dynamo Kyiv" is celebrating its 97th birthday today, May 13.
The football club was founded on May 13, 1927, when the interdepartmental commission registered the charter of the Kyiv Proletarian Sports Society "Dynamo". The initiative to create a football team belonged to the head of the Kyiv district department of the DPU Semen Zahidny, and his deputy Serhiy Barminskyi was responsible for the selection of players. The team consisted of employees of the GPU and football players from other teams, who were attracted by the favorable financial situation.
The first steps of the club
The debut of "Dynamo" took place on July 1, 1928 in a match against the team of the city of Bila Tserkva. Kyiv opened the scoring, but lost 1:2. In the following matches, the team showed a stable result, playing with teams from Odesa and Moscow.
The first victory of "Dynamo" came in November 1928, when the team defeated the champion of Kyiv - the "Zheldor" team.
Club achievements
During the almost century-long history of its existence, "Dynamo" became the champion and winner of Cups and Supercups both in the USSR and in independent Ukraine. During the existence of the USSR, the team won 13 championship titles, 9 USSR Cups and 6 Ukrainian USSR Cups. In independent Ukraine, the Kyivans became champions of the country 15 times, and also won the Cups of Ukraine and Super Cups many times.
In addition, Dynamo won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup twice and the UEFA Super Cup once.
It should be noted that football player Andriy Shevchenko, who played for Dynamo for various periods, was included in the FIFA list of 100 greatest football players.
