On the night of June 14, Russia carried out massive military strikes against Ukraine. According to the Air Force, Tu-95MS bombers fired approximately five cruise missiles, resulting in a series of attacks on rear areas throughout the night. The main target of the night strikes was Starokostyantiniv in Khmelnytskyi, while Lviv was also a threat. In addition, in the morning, Russia used a Kinzhal missile from a MiG-31 aircraft, explosions were observed near Kyiv and in Khmelnytskyi.
Staro Konstantinov was first attacked by the "Shakhed" military groups, and after 3 o'clock in the morning cruise missiles were fired. They flew through the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions to the west and hit Starokostantiny in several waves, the Air Force said, noting the importance of the city because of its military airfield.
In addition to Starokostyantynov, part of the rockets headed further west towards Frankiv Oblast and Lviv Oblast. Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy reported about the movement of rockets towards the city.
At the same time, the Air Force reported the movement of ballistic missiles from the south to Zaporozhye several times during the night. The head of the region, Ivan Fedorov, twice announced the attacks on the city.
The air raid alert was sounded at 4:44 am.
In the recent massive Russian strikes on Ukraine, which took place in June, the main target was not only energy facilities, but also the strategically important military airfield in Starokostyantinov, Khmelnytskyi. Experts believe that this may be related to preparations for the possible importation of F-16 fighter jets into Ukraine.
The airbase in Starokostyantynov is currently considered one of the most equipped in the country. There are specially reinforced shelters for storing aircraft and a suitable runway. Also, it was here that the Su-24M bombers were based, which were armed with the latest Anglo-French Storm Shadow cruise missiles (SCALP) and were used to attack important objects in Russia.
On June 12, the city of Vasylkov near Kyiv, where a significant air base is also located, was also shelled. Enemy forces used a rocket with a cluster warhead, which was shot down near Vasylkovo, which led to a serious fire at an oil depot near the city.
In Kryvyi Rih, on June 12, in the afternoon, 9 people were killed and a residential building was destroyed as a result of shelling by the Russians.
In general, the main goal of most of Russia's spring attacks on the rear regions of Ukraine was the energy infrastructure. Moscow is directing its efforts to destroy the country's energy system by attacking thermal and hydroelectric plants.
As a result, serious problems with electricity supply have already arisen in Ukraine, and the government has already introduced electricity restriction schedules, which are planned to be applied at least in the summer and winter periods.
