Neighbors sent counterfeit letters from the missing on the front of the son - mother retells them 415 thousand UAH

In the Odessa region, police detained a group of people who had a 71-year-old woman who disappeared at the front during the year. The scammers wrote letters on his behalf and demanded transfers to false accounts. The total amount they received amounted to almost UAH 415 thousand.

This was reported in the press services of the National Police and the Prosecutor's Office of Odessa region.

Among the detainees are the neighbors of the victim of the Black Sea, a 24-year-old woman with her 29-year-old cohabitant, as well as their acquaintance. According to the investigation, since August 2024, they issued themselves for the missing military person and sending their mother invented reports with requests for help.

“The attackers knew that the woman was receiving cash from the state and organizing a fraudulent scheme. They wrote letters where on behalf of their son they asked to send money for treatment, clothing and documents. In total, a total of about UAH 415 thousand have made a few transfers for a year, ”police said.

During the searches, the suspects seized personal documents of the missing military, bank cards, phones, as well as the next prepared letter with a request to send another 80 thousand hryvnias.

The prosecutor's office said that the woman had passed to the attackers and packages - including documents and large amounts of cash. One of these packages included almost 175 thousand hryvnias, a passport, a military ticket, a certificate of combatants, a driver's license and medical papers.

The defendants of the case were informed of suspicion of articles:

  • Part 3 of Art. 357 of the Criminal Code - unlawful seizure of documents;

  • Part 2 and Part 3 of Art. 190 of the Criminal Code - a fraud committed by a group of persons in martial law.

The issue of choosing precautionary measures is currently being resolved.

Police have published a video of the interrogation. He is detained quietly how they received legends from a woman who believed as if she was helping her son. The pensioner herself confessed that only later began to notice incompatibility in the style and content of "letters".

Law enforcement officers urge families of the military, especially those who are considered missing, to be as careful as possible and not trust the message from unknown numbers. In case of doubt - immediately contact the police or the only specialized center for the search of persons in the Odessa region.
