Journalists continue to investigate the assets, lifestyles, and career paths of candidates for the position of head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine. Among them is the current deputy head of the customs service, Vladyslav Suvorov, who has over 15 years of experience working in customs authorities.
According to media reports, Suvorov is among the top five contenders for a leadership position. However, his biography raises questions, in particular because of the way his property is registered.
Since 2024, the official has been living in an apartment of over 100 m² in the Greenville Park residential complex in the capital. The housing is officially registered in the name of his mother, who has no sources of income that would allow her to purchase such real estate. A parking space is also registered on her. In the declaration, Suvorov indicated only the right to use the apartment, but did not indicate its value. Together with the parking space, the object is estimated at approximately 5 million hryvnias.
In the same complex, a commercial space belongs to the brother of the official's wife. Experts point out that concentrating family property in one real estate object and registering it with relatives is a typical scheme for officials with limited official income.
Journalists also mention Suvorov's connections with former SBU head Ivan Bakanov and the scandalous fugitive general Naumov, as well as with other officials linked to cigarette smuggling.
The competition for the position of Head of the State Customs Service is part of Ukraine's obligations to the IMF. Although it started with a delay of almost six months, it provides a chance to restart and reform the customs service.
