In Kharkiv, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police detained a couple who was engaged in espionage in favor of Russia and drug trafficking. The man and woman gathered information about the location of the Ukrainian military and SBU staff and handed it to Russian curators.
Spy activity was carried out under the guise of ordinary walks. The couple chose strategically important locations, including the spare command points of the Armed Forces and the place of residence of the SBU staff, photographing them and fixing geolocation. The invaders, in turn, promised them a reward for the information collected, which caused their betrayal.
In addition to espionage, the woman was involved in drug trafficking. She left bookmarks with methadone in the city, which also became part of her criminal activity. The detainees were found in the rented apartment where they organized conspiracy. During the search, law enforcement officers seized mobile phones with evidence of their criminal activity.
The persons were charged with several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 3 of Art. 114-2-transfer to the enemy information on the location of the Ukrainian military (punishment up to 12 years in prison);
- Part 2 of Art. 307 - illegal drug trafficking (punishment up to 10 years in prison);
- Part 1 of Art. 309 - storage of narcotic drugs without the purpose of sale (punishment up to 5 years in prison).
The court chose them a pre -trial detention measure without bail. During espionage and drug trafficking, the persons involved in up to 12 years in prison.
