Norway plans to establish the production of unmanned surfaces directly in the territory of Ukraine. As reported on June 23 at the Ministry of Defense of Norway, the corresponding contract has already been signed.
The project will be implemented in support of the Maritime Coalition, which Norway heads with the United Kingdom. In total, in 2025, the country allocated 6.7 billion Norwegian crowns (about $ 590 million) to strengthen Ukraine's defense capability in the maritime direction.
Some of these funds will go to the creation of unmanned sea ships that will be developed by Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace (KDA) technologies. Production will take place in Ukraine, using Norwegian experience and technical solutions.
The Minister of Defense of Norway Tore Onhus Sandwick informed about the conclusion of the contract between Kongsberg and the Ukrainian side. Production facilities will be placed in Ukraine, which, according to the parties, will increase the localization and accelerate the supply of technologies in real war conditions.
At the same time, on June 22, it became known that Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace opened in Ukraine. The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov noted that cooperation with the company will cover not only maritime projects but also air defense systems.
Kongsberg is a well -known defense player. In particular, it produces NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems that are actively used by Ukraine to protect against Russia's air attacks.
